Growing up, I was aware that many children face food poverty but didn’t know that it was to
such a large extent. Once I read the facts and statistics about how many children stay
hungry, I decided that I wanted to make a difference to help tackle food poverty, and so I
chose to become a Youth Ambassador for The Akshaya Patra Foundation.
After first starting our midday meal programme in India in June 2000, our operations have grown so that we now provide free school meals to 1.8 million schoolchildren in India every day. Now, following the opening of our first UK kitchen in 2020, we also provide 90,000 meals every year to children suffering from holiday hunger in and around the Greater London area.
